Association Leaders Elected for 2014

ANKENY, Iowa – (Oct. 10, 2013)Shaping future direction through visionary leadership and empowerment of membership is the charge of three newly elected members to the 2014 Board of Directors. Board members bring strong backgrounds in certification and are exceptionally qualified to serve as effective leaders of this organization. ABC congratulates the following members who will assume their respective positions on Jan. 1, 2014:

Vice-President: Mike Gosselin; British Columbia Environmental Certification Program: British Columbia, Canada (four year tenure proceeding to President-Elect, President, and Immediate Past-President). He brings a wealth of experience in operator certification and its everyday impact and importance to operators to the ABC Board. He has served served on the Wastewater Treatment Validation & Examination Committee and Communication Committee and is currently the Bylaws/Polices & Procedures Committee.

At-Large Division Director: Kathy Abramowski; Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development Program: Alberta, Canada (two year term, 2014-2015 representing biosolids land application, cross-connection control, laboratory analyst, plant maintenance members). Abramowski has more than 30 years of experience developing and implementing operator certification and training programs in Alberta. She is an executive member of the Alberta Water and Wastewater Operators Association, and a member of the Western Canada Water Association. Abramowski’s re-election as At-Large Division Director is recognition by her peers of her dedication to improving the industry. She was awarded ABC’s Robert C. McAnespie Outstanding Certification Officer Award in 2013 in recognition of her various contributions to the industry and ABC.

Water Division Director: Kenneth Smith; Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation: Juneau, Alaska (two year term, 2014-2015 representing water treatment, distribution and very small water system members). Smith brings more than 22 years of experience in the water industry with a strong background in certification to the Board. As the Environmental Program Specialist for Alaska Operator Certification Program, Smith has seen the program through changes every step of the way. Smith and the Alaska Operator Certification Program were awarded ABC’s Certification Program Award in 2012 for their outstanding contributions toward advancing the certification of environmental professionals. In 2009, he was awarded membership into the Select Society of Sanitary Sludge Shovelers.
