2011 ABC Leadership to Spearhead Exam Development Initiatives

ANKENY, Iowa – (Nov. 16, 2010) The Association of Boards of Certification (ABC), representing environmental certification programs around the globe, is looking ahead to an exciting year of implementing initiatives driven by program members who have recently elected leadership that will inspire the process.

ABC would like to congratulate the following candidates who were elected to the 2011 ABC Board of Directors during the Oct. 2 election:

  • Vice-President, Brent Herring: Superintendent of the Narragansett Bay Commission’s Bucklin Point Wastewater Treatment Facility (four year term beginning with Vice-President, President-Elect, President, and Immediate Past-President).
  • Certification Council Director, Laurie Sharp: Iowa Operator Certification Program, Iowa Department of Natural Resources (IDNR): Des Moines, Iowa (two year term, 2011-2012).
  • Wastewater Division Director, Bill Hyslop: British Columbia Environmental Operators Certification Program (two year term, 2011-2012 representing Wastewater, Collection, Industrial Waste and Small Wastewater Systems members).

In addition, ABC congratulates two members of its Validation & Examination (V&E) Council who have been elected as V&E Council Directors, and will serve on the 2011 Board of Directors:

  • V&E Council Director, Brian Thorburn: EPCOR Water, Qualicum Beach, British Columbia (one year term, 2011)
  • V&E Council Director, Gayle Lammers: URS Corporation, Commerce City, Colorado (one year term, 2011)

President-Elect Jenny Chambers says she is honored to lead next year’s Board of Directors and promises there is no shortage of excitement in store for the dynamic Association.

“After developing a targeted testing service plan, we’ve been able to establish partnerships and set in motion activities for 2011 to strengthen our organization,” she said. “We’re focused on enhancing the mission that brought ABC together.”

Current ABC President John Solvie explains that in 2010 the Board of Directors’ primary focus was raising ABC’s psychometric bar to maintain stride with today’s demanding standards which resulted in establishing a symbiotic industry partnership with Professional Testing for psychometric oversight of ABC’s exam development process.

“For our members, it means significantly enhancing the integrity and legal defensibility of ABC’s standardized exams,” he said. “The Board of Directors is also pursuing validation of its enhanced exam psychometrics through ANSI/ISO 17024 accreditation.”

All elected officers and Board members will assume their duties January 1, 2011.
